RUNNING

I first took up running for fitness at university when a lot of my personal life was in turmoil and I sought out a challenge to concentrate on and train for. I’ve always been the ‘sporty’ one but at school that encompassed all the team sports.

Running gave me an outlet where I could just put on my trainers, any time of day, and experience the physical and mental space I craved, without having to organise it with someone else, book out a court or book a class. For me it’s definitely a form of escapism which I still crave to this day.

It may no longer be the dating drama of uni days, more likely to be a toddler tantrum now, but all the same it gives me time to myself where no one needs me. As a woman and a young mum, it can often feel hard to take time just for me, but I know that the time I do take, to feel physically and mentally stronger, makes me a better wife, friend and mum.

And now being part of GFR gives me an even bigger support system to encourage me to put on those trainers, even on the days I really can’t face it - such as after a fabulous night dancing 😉

DONATE

This week, we're also celebrating IWD to raise money for Refuweegee, which is a Glasgow based charity that welcomes people to Glasgow and the rest of Scotland who have been forcibly displaced from all over the world. Our JustGiving Page is here:
