WHEN AND WHERE WE RUN

We offer runs on Thursday at 6:30pm and Sunday at 10:45am (or 9:30am for longer runs).

We also offer coaching on Tuesday at 6:30pm for full members only.

We meet at the entrance of The ARC (Sports Centre) at Glasgow Caledonian University.

We offer runs all throughout the year, except for a few days around Christmas and New Year. Our runs are suitable for runners of all levels, from those looking to start running and get fit through to competitive runners.

When we run

Thursday at 6:30pm

This is our most popular weekly run!

Meet from 6:15pm ready to start promptly at 6:30pm.

What to expect

We start by signing in and getting ready, and then a member of the committee makes some announcements. We then split into groups for each run.

Every week we offer a range of runs for all abilities, led by our Jog Scotland qualified jog leaders. The routes change every week to keep it interesting. We usually offer the following on a Thursday:

  • Runs with a pace to suit the group

    • 5 km

    • 7.5 km

    • 10 km

  • Runs with a specific pace

    • 10 km (60 mins)

    • 10 km (55 mins)

    • 10 km (50 mins)

    • 10 km (45 mins)

Jog leaders begin with a group warm up, and then we set off!

Jog leaders make sure everyone in the group is looked after, and that the group run at the right pace.

These are sociable runs, so runners will be chatting for most of the way. At some point on the route, the jog leader will take a group photo (which you can opt out of) to share on social media. After the run, the jog leader will finish with a group cool down.

Monthly club run

On the last Thursday of each month we have our Club Run, where all runs follow a similar route. We change the club run routes every 6 months.

Monthly social

On the first Thursday of each month we have our monthly social event, where members are invited to join us for food and drinks at The Ark pub near George Square. This is a great chance to get to know other members and is usually well attended!

Sunday at 10:45am (or 9:15am for longer runs)

For most runs, meet from 10:30am ready to start promptly at 10:45am.

For long runs over 10km, meet from 9:15am ready to start promptly at 9:30am.

What to expect

We start by signing in and getting ready. For runs starting at 10:45am, a member of the committee makes some announcements, and then we split into groups for each run. For longer runs starting at 9:30am, there are no announcements.

Every week we offer a range of runs for all abilities, led by our Jog Scotland qualified jog leaders. The routes change every week to keep it interesting. The longer runs (15+ km) are part of our marathon and half-marathon training plans, but open to everyone. We usually offer the following on a Sunday:

  • 5 km

  • 7.5 km

  • 10 km (50-60 mins)

  • 15+ km

Jog leaders begin with a group warm up, and then we set off!

Members often go for coffee or brunch after runs on Sunday.

Tuesday training at 6:30pm

Every week we offer coaching sessions for full members only.

We meet at the entrance of The ARC (not to be confused with ‘The Ark’ pub which we go to for social events).

You will usually see a crowd of people - that’s us! To avoid crowding the entrance, we encourage everyone to wait outside The ARC once signed in and ready to run.

If you’re new - welcome! Look out for members of the committee who wear yellow armbands, or welcome ambassadors who wear green armbands. We will keep you right! Also feel free to introduce yourself to any other members, we’re a friendly bunch.

Signing in

We have a stall set up indoor near the entrance, where you scan a QR code to sign in.

Full members (and people trying out the club for the first time) don’t need to pay anything to the club to sign in. ‘Pay as you go’ members pay £1 to the club at the stall (by card or cash).

Getting Here

Car

There are usually parking spaces nearby on St Mungo’s Ave or Milton St.

On weekdays, parking on the street is free after 6pm.

On Sundays, there are charges for parking on the street. For shorter runs (less than 2 hours), it may be cheaper to park on the street than use the nearby multi-story car parks, but you should check before you pay. You can use the “RingGo” app to pay and extend your stay if needed.

If you can’t get a space there are nearby car parks on Cowcaddens Road (Concert Square is opposite the university), or at Buchanan Galleries shopping centre.

Bus

Buchanan Bus Station is across the road with several main bus routes from across the city terminating there. Hope Street and Renfield Street are also only a few minutes walk for other main bus routes.

Train

Queen Street Station is a 5-10 minute walk away, and Central Station is a 15-20 minute walk away.

Subway

Buchanan Street Station is a 5-10 minute walk away.

Bike

Cycling facilities are available at the entrance to The ARC.

There are also NextBike stations nearby, at the entrance to Buchanan Bus Station and at George Square near the entrance to Queen Street Station.
